Exchange rate

A useful symbolic calculation is:

Estimated destination amount = source amount × quoted conversion rate − disclosed deductions

For a floating-rate exchange, the final calculation may instead use the executable rate available under the order conditions. Fees may also be charged in different assets or at different stages, so they should not be subtracted twice. The quote must state enough information to establish whether a displayed amount is gross, estimated net, or final.

Practical example: reviewing a crypto-to-crypto quote

Suppose a user wants to exchange BTC for USDT. Both assets are supported by the service, but that does not establish that every BTC-to-USDT route or every possible network is currently available. Before transferring funds, the user should check the available exchange direction and current quote, select only a supported network, and review the order-specific deposit instructions.

The source amount is the BTC to be sent. The quote supplies a BTC-to-USDT rate and indicates whether that rate is fixed or floating. Any separate service fee should be distinguished from the rate itself, while the network cost of sending BTC should be checked in the wallet. The expected USDT amount must also be read together with the specified payout network: the ticker alone is not enough to identify a valid transfer route.

TXID vs. order ID A TXID identifies an on-chain transaction; an order ID identifies a service-level exchange request. Searching for an order ID in a blockchain explorer will not verify the transfer, and a deposit TXID alone may not identify all order conditions.
Address vs. private key An address is used to receive or identify a destination; a private key authorizes control over funds. Disclosing a private key can compromise the wallet. A legitimate deposit instruction requires a destination address, not the sender’s private key or seed phrase.
Seed phrase vs. private key A seed phrase can be used by compatible wallet software to derive multiple keys; a private key controls a particular cryptographic account or address structure.   • Separate explicit fees from costs that may be reflected in the exchange rate.
  • Check whether the destination network and any Memo or Tag requirement are stated.
  • Review what happens if the sent amount differs from the order amount or arrives outside the applicable conditions.
  • Check the current verification and compliance requirements before creating the order.

In the sending or receiving wallet

  • Match both the asset and the network; matching the ticker alone is insufficient.
  • Verify the full destination address instead of relying only on its first or last characters.
  • Check whether the wallet shows a network fee and which native asset pays it.
  • Confirm the amount being transferred separately from the fee charged by the wallet or network.
  • Use a Memo or Tag only when it is explicitly required by the receiving instructions.
  • Never disclose a seed phrase or private key to create, verify, or accelerate an exchange.

In a blockchain explorer

  • Use the explorer for the actual network on which the transaction was submitted.
  • Search with the TXID rather than the exchange order ID.
  • Compare the sender, recipient, transferred asset, and amount with the order instructions.
  • Check whether the transaction is pending, included, successful, failed, or otherwise marked by that network.
  • Review the block and confirmation information where the network exposes it.
  • Distinguish the deposit transaction from the later payout transaction; they normally have different TXIDs.

An explorer verifies on-chain records, but it does not by itself prove that the correct exchange rate was applied or that a receiving service credited an internal balance. Conversely, an order status does not replace blockchain evidence that a deposit or payout was submitted.

The most reliable comparison is a net-result comparison: the same source amount, the same direction, the same asset and network, and quotes obtained close enough in time to remain meaningful. Record the quote conditions before sending, retain both deposit and payout TXIDs, and judge the completed exchange by the final amount actually received—not by a market headline, an isolated rate, or a fee shown without its surrounding calculation.
